Business Challenge: How do we implement both redeployment and outplacement strategies?

When a service unit of a national Public Sector employee organisation was privatised and its operations outsourced, 30 jobs were eliminated. The organisation sought to redeploy the displaced individuals and, at the same time, begin career transition services for another estimated 7,000 who were soon to retire.

Right Management developed both a short-term and a long-term solution to the organisation’s career transition needs. For the displaced employees of the outsourced unit, Right Management offered career consulting and assistance with job-search activities, such as CV writing and interview preparation. Meanwhile, to ensure quality services across the country for the retiring officials, Right Management’s consultants developed a deep understanding of the organisation’s culture and of civil servants as a whole. This resulted in customised career transition services for the retirees, including outplacement seminars and workshops, career consulting and job-search assistance.

Right Management succeeded in redeploying all 30 of the displaced employees within the organisation. More than 400 retiring civil servants have participated in outplacement services during the first two years of the programme, with 100% having successfully found new jobs outside the organisation.
